The Story Traveller

Stories from around the World

I have a wealth of stories from all around the World to tell (from North to South, East to West). I am fascinated by how tales travel, endure and develop in different environments.

Anansi -The First Spider Man

There are many Anansi (the spider) stories and I will bring a tarantula puppet in to bring them to life. I have told these stories to people of all ages. With older children I explain how these yarns travelled from West Africa to the Caribbean. One school asked me to do some work on slavery so I incorporated Anansi Stories into this work.

I know many fables from all over the African continent that have a timeless appeal. There are tales about the many animals as well stories about the different peoples.

 Myths + Legends

I love the Arthurian legends; I used to drag my then young family round Arthurian sites!  I tell many stories about the Once and Future King. These stories range from the coming of Merlin, to the final battle and the legends of the sleeping knights. My Sir Gawain and the Green Knight tale can be told to adults and young children alike and is full of humour.

I know many other legends from both Britain and around the world. These myths like the Norse legends can be told to any age group from 6 to 96!

 Stories about birds and animals

I have many stories about birds and animals from different cultures and I am currently writing a collection of bird stories. One story I wrote especially for the WWT and I have worked with their staff on how to tell the story.

I love Australia’s Aboriginal People’s time called the Dreaming. Here I am telling the coming of the Kookaburra. This is a story with distinctive sound effects! How the Kangaroo danced and ended up on its hind legs is also worth seeing!
